Robert Guelpen wants a buyer for his $4.8 million scale model car

Since 1999, Robert Guelpen, an engineer who spent eight years developing motors for Mercedes, has been making incredibly detailed, luxurious scale model cars. Now, the engineer has plans to create something so special that will outshine all his earlier creations. Robert Guelpen is looking for a buyer for his most expensive model at an auction in either New York or Dubai, and the minimum bidding price is a whopping $4.8 million. He says…

The material costs alone amount to about $2.7 million. They include components made of platinum, gold, sterling silver and lots of precious stones. I want to create something unique, something that has never existed before.

Presently, Guelpen wants some carmaker to provide him with one of its luxury cars to attract bids. He has already sent proposals to some luxury car firms. After a luxury car is put at his disposal, he will create a stunning model of the car, which will later hit the auction block. The highest bidder can further go for design changes like different wheel caps or steering wheel. The lucky fellow will receive the most expensive model car in the world three months later inside a bulletproof display case.

Guelpen is quite optimistic of finding a buyer in one of the rich Gulf states, such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Qatar, where he already done good business. If Guelpen manages to get a buyer for the world’s most expensive scale model car, he will donate $700,000 of the proceeds to charity

KOTA BHARU – Pusat beli-belah KB Mall di sini yang pernah gempar ekoran tragedi kereta ‘menjunam dari langit’ pada tahun 2009 sekali lagi menjadi tumpuan semalam apabila seorang gadis cuba terjun disyaki untuk membunuh diri dari tingkat tiga bangunan tersebut.

Kejadian pada pukul 3.30 petang itu menarik perhatian ramai apabila mangsa yang berusia 20 tahun dikatakan berdiri di birai bangunan sambil memegang sebilah pisau dan sebuah telefon bimbit.

Sesekali gadis yang bekerja di pusat beli-belah Wakaf Che Yeh dekat sini itu dilihat cuba mengacu dan meletakkan pisau pada lehernya.

Mangsa yang berasal dari Kampung Gaung di sini dipercayai bertindak demikian kerana tertekan dengan masalah keluarga dan cinta.

Pasukan bomba yang tiba di tempat kejadian mengambil masa kira-kira sejam untuk memujuk gadis tersebut.

Ketua Operasi Balai Bomba Kota Bharu, Shahrin Yusman Mat Yusof berkata, cubaan pihaknya untuk menarik mangsa gagal apabila gadis itu terlepas daripada genggaman anggota bomba dan terjatuh ketika dia meronta-ronta untuk terjun.

NOTTINGHAM - Tidak ramai yang sanggup menukarkan bilik bawah tanah kediaman mereka menjadi sebuah akuarium besar tetapi itulah yang dilakukan oleh seorang lelaki di Britain, Jack Heathcote, lapor sebuah akhbar semalam.

Heathcote, 37, membina akuarium persendirian itu dengan kos £5,000 (RM24,603) di rumahnya di sini dan memenuhinya dengan beberapa spesies hidupan air tawar eksotik.

Akuarium gergasi itu yang berukuran 3.8 meter x 3.9 meter x 2.1 meter terletak di bawah ruang tamu kediaman lima biliknya.

"Hobi saya bukan sekadar menguasai hidup saya tetapi ia juga menguasai rumah saya," katanya.

Porsche 918 Spyder Heading to Production for $845,000

At the Geneva Motor Show last year, Porsche wowed the crowds with the 918 Spyder. A conceptual successor to the Carrera GT, the 918 Spyder showed what a hybrid could be in the extreme. Greeted by positive reactions, Porsche approved the model for production, and has now announced that it is accepting early orders.

The production version packs a 4.0-liter V8 engine and a pair of electric motors, working in unison to deliver 718 horsepower for a 3.1-second sprint to sixty and an impressive 78 miles per gallon. Only 918 examples will be offered, each fetching $845,000.

It will take Porsche a few years to build and deliver the supercar to its buyers around the world, and to keep buyers satisfied in the meantime, the German automaker is offering a special edition of its current performance flagship. The 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder (available in coupe or convertible) is essentially the same as the existing model -- right down to the $160k starting price -- but features some unique touches inspired by the new Spyder.

Coachbuilt Italian Corvettes to Debut at Top Marques Monaco

Each year, the Top Marques show in Monaco brings out some of the finest pieces of craftsmanship, from cars to watches. And this year's event is sure not to disappoint. Among the many debuts scheduled for the Monte Carlo exposition are a pair of custom supercars crafted in Italy and based on the Chevrolet Corvette.

The art of transforming the Corvette by Italian coachbuilders goes back for decades, and has recently been revived. At Top Marques Monaco this year, two new models will debut. One is the Soliel Anadi, designed by Ugur Sahin (pictured above). The car features a uniquely Italian take on the Corvette's styling, with enhanced performance upgrades to make it even faster.

Alongside the Anadi will be a new version of the Spada Codatronca. Styled by a former Zagato designer and his son, the Codatronca debuted at the Top Marques show several years ago, but a new version called the Monza -- focused for use on the race track and anticipated to feature an open roadster body-style -- is tipped to debut at this year's show as well.

THE desperate parents of a NINE STONE three-year-old have told how they can't make the giant toddler diet because they are scared of him.

Lu Hao, from China, is dangerously overweight, and at 9st 6lb is FIVE TIMES as heavy as other boys his age.

He is getting so big his family are frightened of him — and have given up trying to stop the youngster from gorging on huge plates of ribs and rice.

His parents claim he throws vicious tantrums if he doesn't get third or fourth helpings of dinner.

And mum Chen Huan from Dashan, Guangdong Province, admits: "We have to let him be as if we don't feed him he will cry nonstop."

She said she has tried to cut down his meals in the past, but despite her best efforts he still managed to put on whopping 1.5st in the last year alone.

He has already been banned from nursery over fears his size might be a danger to other children, and usually plays alone at home.

But moving around is becoming tougher and tougher for the toddler, whose weight means he gets out of breath easily.

Ironically when Lu Hao was born he was underweight, at 5.7lbs, but he started piling on the pounds at three months old, and hasn't stopped since.

Dad, Lu Yuncheng, who struggles to pick him up, said: "His appetite is so good that for a meal he can eat three big bowls of rice, even larger than I and his mother."

Last year Lu Hao's worried parents took him to see specialists at the Guangdong Children's Hospital.

Doctors there said they think it is possible his weight gain could be down to a hormone disorder.

Dr Lu Hong said at the time: "He is not just overweight but very tall as well so we may be able to treat him if it really is hormonal.

"But he cannot remain like this or his heart will never stand the strain."

A recent government survey showed there are 60million obese people in China, with the number doubling between 1992 and 2002.
