An exhibition that shows animals in their most stripped back form — dissected, pickled and reassembled — will open on Friday.

'Cow killer' bug's hair is a white old mess

LOOKS like this insect is having a bad hair day.

The tiny Thistledown Velvet ant is just two centimetres long. But thanks to its vicious sting it is known as Cow Killer Ant.

Despite its name it is a wingless female wasp. It is found crawling through lawns or digging around soil.

Snapper Robert Jensen, 58, captured this super close-up photo while travelling through the Mojave Desert in California.

His 22-year-old son Chris spotted the critter wandering around on the ground.

The male of the bug species are even smaller — though it does not mean their sting is any less painful.

Imaginative Yong Ho Ji salvages rubber for his designs from old cars he finds at scrap yards.

He then spends months cutting each tyre into thin strips before moulding them together into models of animals, with some standing more than 5ft tall.

One of his scary sculptures is a huge rhinoceros-type beast, complete with an enormous horn.

Another of his creations is a huge lion rearing up on its hind legs, while one sculpture is a Minotaur, a creature from ancient Greek myth.

Yong Ho, from Korea, told how he had the idea of making models from tyres after visiting his local scrap yard to find parts for his car.

He explained: "Because of their rubbery nature, tyres can be cut, bent, and manipulated into many different forms and shapes. The flexibility and the strength of tyres drew me to them.

"Every artist has their own medium they work best in and for me it's definitely old tyres. You could say I'm burning rubber."

He uses up to 50 different tyres on a single sculpture, with each artwork taking anywhere from a few weeks to several months to finish.

He added: "Many people tell me that they are frightened by my works. But the truth is that our society is already familiar with freakish things.

"Take genetic engineering and environmental pollution for example.

"There have been cases where eating genetically modified food could have caused strange, unexplainable diseases: babies born with two heads, and a lab mouse with a human ear growing on its back."

Lionel Messi is highest-paid star in the world

Lionel Messi
JACKPOT ... Barcelona ace Lionel Messi is coining it in

The brilliant Barcelona wing wizard has been tipped to earn a jaw-dropping £27.4million this year from wages, bonuses, sponsorships and endorsements.

His annual £13m salary gets topped up nicely through a number of deals with leading global brands, including adidas and Pepsi, and it seems like the sky is the limit for the Argentine.

Messi just heads off the enduring money-making machine that is David Beckham, whose wallet shows no sign of thinning out despite playing his football in America with LA Galaxy.

Becks, 36, is set to earn £26m as his worldwide claim shows little sign of diminishing, especially as his latest deal is to be Samsung's global ambassador for the Olympics.

He leads Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, whose wages match his amazing record of 98 goals in 90 games for the La Liga leaders.

The list of the world's richest footballers and coaches, complied by France Football, sees Wayne Rooney in fifth place behind Samuel Eto'o, who plays for mega-rich Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.

Rooney earns £17m against Eto'o's £19.3m. The Manchester United striker picks up £8m a season from his latest five-year contract and, although he ran into trouble with Coca-Cola last year following off-the-field skirmishes, commercial interest in the England superstar is soaring again.

Jose Mourinho is the top-paid coach with £10.19m this year with Real Madrid.

Paris St Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti is second (£11m) with Barca's Pep Guardiola (£7.88m) third.

Let me stay! Drogba does not want to leave but admits Blues future is uncertain

Didier Drogba repeated his desire to stay at Chelsea for 'as long as possible' after their historic Champions League comeback against Napoli but insisted: 'I am not master of my destiny'.

Drogba proved last night that, even at the age of 34, he was still the Blues' main man, opening the scoring in their thrilling 4-1 extra-time win at Stamford Bridge.

The striker currently looks set to leave the club - potentially for a lucrative payday in China - when his contract expires at the end of the season following failed negotiations over a new deal.

But he admitted last night's 5-4 aggregate success made him want to stay put even more.

He told Canal+: 'I am not master of my fate, but I will stay as long as possible.

'I am happy here, to experience moments like these. I hope there will be many others.'

Chelsea became only the fourth team in 45 attempts to overturn a first leg deficit of two goals or more, belying the predictions that last night would be the likes of Drogba's final Champions League outing for the club.

The Ivorian said: 'Many have said that it was my last game, but the adventure continues.

'It has been a long time since I have seen a Chelsea like this.'

Indeed, the Blues have come under heavy criticism for their performances this season, which led to the sacking of manager Andre Villas-Boas almost two weeks ago.

Midfielder Frank Lampard, who also scored, said: 'The only way to answer it is to win games and play well and we've done that.

'It was an amazing night here. I've had some very good nights here in the Champions League at home and this one goes straight in right at the top because being 3-1 down against a quality team and performing like we did was a great feeling.'

Lampard, whose fractious relationship with Villas-Boas was also arguably a factor in the Portuguese's downfall, insisted Wednesday's win would mean nothing if Chelsea failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

He said: 'It needs to be a real step forward for us in the Premier League as well.

'We need to enjoy the fact that we're still in the Champions League but we need to make sure we carry that form into our league games.'
