Seekor Cicak Tokek Mencecah Puluhan Ribu Ringgit

Singapore businessman to renew Liverpool bid: BBC

A 'For Sale' sign is pictured above a shop, opposite Liverpool Football Club's Anfield Stadium. Singapore billionaire Peter Lim is to make a renewed bid for ailing English Premier League giants Liverpool by offering to buy the club for more money than the Americans preferred by the club's board the BBC claimed on Monday.

LONDON (AFP) - – Singapore billionaire Peter Lim is to make a renewed bid for ailing English Premier League giants Liverpool by offering to buy the club for more money than the Americans preferred by the club's board the BBC claimed on Monday.

Lim, who made his fortune in fashion, logistics and agri-business, thought he was the preferred option to buy the club off the unpopular American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett the BBC citing sources close to the Singapore businessman claimed.

However, Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton announced last Wednesday that Liverpool would instead be sold to John Henry's New England Sport Ventures for 300million pounds.

Lim believes that Henry's offer was no better than his in financial terms.

Lim was offering to repay all of Royal Bank of Scotland's and Wachovia's 200million pounds of long-term debt, to take on 60million pounds of other debt and to inject 40million pounds of working capital.

The Singapore businessman unlike the American bidders would also finance the whole deal without having to borrow any money.

Executives close to Lim claim he was told by Broughton that this made him a better option for buying the club than New England Sports Ventures.

He was told that Liverpool's board was concerned that the Americans would have to borrow to finance the takeover - ringing alarm bells that the club would find itself no better off under new American owners as their present ones.

Gillett and Hicks for their part are not satisfied with the deal agreed by Broughton with their compatriots and have gone to court over it.

That case is scheduled to get under way in London's High Court on Tuesday with the club's unpopular American owners trying to block the takeover bid.

The case will hinge on whether Broughton had the authority to sell the club to New England Sports Ventures (NESV), against the wishes of the present owners.

Broughton, appointed as independent chairman in April, agreed the sale with the support of managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre, who out-voted Hicks and Gillett 3-2.

Hicks and Gillett unsuccessfully attempted to sack Purslow and Ayre shortly before the board meeting which approved the deal.

Broughton claims that when the owners decided to sell the club in April, major creditor Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) requested undertakings that only he, as independent chairman, could make changes to the club's board.

Hicks has denied that any such undertakings in place and that therefore Broughton's actions in forcing through the sale were illegal and invalid.

The boardroom battle has coincided with Liverpool's worst start to a season for nearly 50 years, with the club languishing in the relegation zone and eliminated from the League Cup.

Strand Craft Yacht & Supercar for Sale at $27.5 Million

The Strand Craft 122 superyacth / supercar combo we first told you about back in May has moved beyond the concept stage into a production-ready rocketship. The first example has just been listed for sale by Sweden's Gray Design via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for about $27.5 million, with a slated delivery date of October 2013. The sleek 125-ft. craft will be able to reach a top speed of 55 knots with the use of her optional Rolls-Royce KaMeWa boosters kicking out over 14,000 hp. High gloss mahogany inlays on the foredeck and all-glass atrium covering the cockpit deliver the best facets of both open and closed yachting in one razor sharp high-tech package.

The retro-futuristic Art Deco interior features four large, bedrooms, reception and leather-upholstered salon areas alongside comfortable crew cabins. Elliptical bulletproof windows that stretch halfway across the hull and enough Greek marble to recreate Athens round out the fancy finishes. The specially handcrafted carbon fiber supercar that comes with it is a completely one-off design closely resembling the genetic form and fashion of the mothership. With a rear mounted, 880hp twin-turbo V12 engine it has an estimated 375 km/h top speed and a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. A hydraulic garage door raises upwards and deploys a retractable ramp to become a dockside driveway.

The Launch of Cunard's New Queen Elizabeth Ship

The latest Queen Elizabeth ship, the third generation of ocean liners going back to the late 1930s, was named by the actual Queen ElizabethMonday in Southampton, England. The $634 million ship, the third and final new vessel to be launched by Cunard in a decade, begins its maiden voyage on Tuesday.

She will be nearly full with her maximum 2,094 passengers. The sailing sold out some 18 months ago in 29 minutes and 29 seconds.

Much has changed since the QE2, which went out of service two years ago and was ignominiously sent to Dubai to function as a hotel. Gone are the ripple-effect ceilings and bachelor-pad brass fittings that made the previous ship the latest in 1970s sophistication.

This iteration, technically the QE3 but called simply the QE like the first in the line, hews closely to Cunard's current design ethic, and in both ethic and size, is largely similar to the Queen Victoria, launched in 2007. Extensive wood paneling, art deco touches, and swooping shapes in the ceiling and balustrades mark the interior.
The centerpiece of the ship is an 18 1/2-foot-tall wood art installation that presides over the Grand Lobby. The marquetry panel depicting the original QE -- a liner turned World War service ship turned liner -- was hand-made by Queen Elizabeth's only nephew, David Linley, who is the son of the late Princess Margaret and photographer Lord Snowden. Even without its nepotistic origins, the subtle woods, with knot placement subtly placed to accentuate perspective, is impressive.

Also in the Grand Lobby, facing the marquetry, is an official portrait of the queen, by the youngest female artist to paint the monarch, Isobel Peachey. The Queen sat three times for Peachey, who, lacking a studio, finished the work in her mother's attic.

As a ship that borrows heavily from an oceangoing tradition going back 170 years, Cunard's ships aren't packed with the latest bells and whistles -- although in the QE's case, there is one very large bell, which once stood on the QE2's deck, on display in the Commodore's Club. Instead, designers appear more concerned about providing plenty of places to lounge with a glass of champagne.

Celebrity chef Todd English, who has presences on Cunard's other ships, the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Victoria, does not oversee a kitchen on the new QE. Instead, Chef Jean-Marie Zimmermann, shown above, who will sail with the vessel rather than just oversee cuisine, runs The Verandah, an extra-charge fine French restaurant located on off the Grand Lobby.

Other Cunard dining standards cater to passengers according to their booking class -- Britannia for third class, Princess Grill for second class, and the Queens Grill for first class. In fact, most of the ship is given over to Cunard standards, including the two-level Queens Room, shown above, for dancing with live music, the Royal Arcade for shopping and the Golden Lion evoking a traditional British pub.

One feature being revived from the original QE is the Garden Lounge, a conservatory-style space with a vaulted glass ceiling on the top of the ship. By day, it's a bar and lounge serving the pool areas, and by night, it can serve as a "supper club" for entertainment and dancing with outdoor deck access.

In keeping with Cunard's upscale and well-educated clientele, there's a resident theatre company that performs both musicals and plays. In another sign of whom it expects to host, the kids' area is a mere modest gesture. On Cunard, families are unusual.

Staterooms are nothing special for the cruise industry, although closet space is more ample than the norm, given the line imperative that at least one or two nights of a cruise require black-tie dress. The most lavish suite, the Grand, is notably restrained.

There's no grand piano as in the Norwegian Epic's highest class of cabin. Instead, there's plenty of open space uncluttered by much furniture, a mosaic above the bathtub, a walk-in closet, and a wraparound balcony. Just 162 of the 1,046 staterooms are inside cabins. While the QE2 had no balcony cabins, the new QE has 572 in standard Britannia class alone.

It's a sign of how much the cruise industry has shifted in 30 years. Cunard's new QE may be stocked with some pleasant features that gently recall the past, but it's most a modern cruise ship cut from tasteful cloth, more evocative than truly traditional.

Pagani Zonda 750

Another day, another special edition of the Pagani Zonda. This time it's been commissioned by an unspecified Middle Eastern buyer. Called the Zonda 750, it's based on the limited-production Zonda Cinque, but is further distinguished by its unique purple paint scheme and a specially-designed rear window to accommodate the big overhead air intake.

With few details revealed with the trio of images, speculations circulating is that the 750 denotes the horsepower figure on the Mercedes AMG-built 7.3-liter V12, which would certainly push the Zonda's already unworldly performance into the next dimension. And of course there's no telling how much the customer paid for the privilege of owning a bespoke supercar tailored to his exact specifications, but as the old adage goes, if you have to ask....

Google tests cars that can steer without drivers

WASHINGTON: Google Inc is road-testing cars that steer, stop and start without a human driver. The goal is to "help prevent traffic accidents, free up people's time and reduce carbon emissions," it said.

The cars are never unmanned, project leader Sebastian Thrun wrote on Google's corporate blog. He said a backup driver is always behind the wheel to monitor the software.

It's not the first signal that Google wants to change how people get from place to place. In a speech on Sept 29 at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said "your car should drive itself. It just makes sense."

"It's a bug that cars were invented before computers," Schmidt said.

The cars have travelled a total of 140,000 miles on major California roads without much human intervention, according to Google's corporate blog.

The Mountain View, California-based technology giant has sent seven test cars a total of 1,000 miles without a human touching the controls at all, The New York Times reported earlier.

The cars know speed limits, traffic patterns and road maps, Thrun's posting said. They use video cameras, radar sensors and lasers to detect other cars.

Driving between Northern California and Southern California, the cars have navigated San Francisco's curvy Lombard Street, Los Angeles' Hollywood Boulevard and the cliff-hugging Pacific Coast Highway, the blog said.

Engineers consider the cars safer because they react more quickly than humans, the Times reported. It said Google has not revealed how it hopes to profit from the research.

The company is flushed with cash though, and pushing numerous projects such as the cars that are unrelated to its core business, said Rob Enderle, principal analyst with the Enderle Group in San Jose, California.

"The word 'focus' is a word Google has never learned," Enderle said, pointing to projects involving electricity distribution, vehicle design and artificial intelligence. He said cars that can drive themselves would allow commuters more time to surf the Web, something Google would encourage.

Still, Enderle said, industry leaders such as Volkswagen and Intel Corp are working on similar technology. He said "driverless" vehicles will make computers more like the robots imagined in the 1920s, rather than the tabletop data processors we use today.

The blog said the technology is being developed by scientists who were involved in an earlier set of unmanned car races organised by the government's Defense Advance Research Projects Agency. - AP

India's most expensive film is another Rajinikanth hit

Endhiran (Robot) Poster with Rajinikanth Rajinikanth plays the roles of the nutty professor and his killer robot

India's most expensive film ever is a Frankenstein tale of a scientist who makes a robot in his own image, which turns into a monster and falls in love with his maker's fiancee.

And it looks set to be another mega-hit for one of Bollywood's most bankable stars, Rajinikanth, a balding 61-year-old whose unstoppable box office staying power seems almost as incredible as the film's plotline.

Made with a budget of 1.6bn rupees ($35m; £23m), Enthiran is a story about a killer robot who multiplies into a million clones, destroying Chennai (Madras), the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

But this terrifying army of androids is dwarfed in real life by the legions of fans of the movie's cult mega-star, Rajinikanth, Bollywood's highest-paid actor.

In Enthiran (Robot), Rajinikanth plays the nutty professor and his creation, the humanoid robot, Chitti.

The lovey-dovey android serenades his creator's fiancee, played by another Bollywood star, Aishwarya Rai, singing that he will seek love in places "where Google searches can't reach".

James Bond 'snubbed'

She purrs and calls him her "toyfriend"; he sings that her beauty has set him burning to temperatures that even the "Atlantic Ocean cannot cool".

Smart lines, diabolical characters, high-voltage action and impressive special effects make this a promising Indian popcorn movie.

Rajinikanth Rajinikanth's fans have been known to perform Hindu bathing purification rituals on his posters

Then there are the lush song sequences in exotic locations like Machu Picchu.

The film's spin machine claims that the Peruvian authorities had "refused the shooting of a James Bond film, but allowed our Rajinikanth to dance".

The critics may be cringing, and at nearly 180 minutes, Endhiran is rather long, but the film has stormed the box office since opening last weekend.

The movie is also the product of an industry which is fast becoming globalised, despite its unique brand of cinema.

The special effects are cooked up by a Hollywood FX shop that has worked on films like Jurassic Park and Terminator.

The action scenes were staged by a Hong Kong choreographer who has worked with Jackie Chan and on the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The music is scored by the Oscar-winning AR Rahman - the songs are a fusion of lilting Tamil numbers set to Malaysian rap and hip hop, and bouncy electro-pop.

As so often, Rajinikanth steals the show.

"The two worthwhile creations of God are you and me", he tells the film's heroine.

At least half that statement would be heartily agreed with by members of the more than 6,000 Rajinikanth fan clubs that have spawned across India.

He is especially popular in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, where film stars are venerated like gods.

In a recent article, slate.com rated Rajinikanth as the second-highest-paid actor in Asia, after Jackie Chan.

'Style King'

"If a tiger had sex with a tornado and then their tiger-nado baby got married to an earthquake, their offspring would be Rajinikanth," says a review in slate.com.

Endhiran (Robot) Poster with Rajinikanth and Ashwariya Rai Rajinikanth's eccentric mannerisms and histrionics have earned him the nickname "Style King"

In Japan, his film Muthu was dubbed in Japanese as The Dancing Maharaja and became a huge hit in 1995.

Rajinikanth's success is all the more remarkable considering he has no obvious aptitude as a dancer - a talent so desirable for Tamil musicals.

His eccentric mannerisms and histrionics have earned him the nickname Style King. But he remains the most beloved star of the Tamils.

His fans thought nothing of queuing from the early hours outside cinemas on the day of the film's premiere.

Rajinikanth's followers have been known to perform Hindu bathing purification rituals on his posters.

The success of Endhiran ensures that their worship of the Bollywood megastar will continue.
