PORSCHE have given the go-ahead to the world's fastest "green" supercar.

The German sports carmakers will build a production version of the 918 Spyder concept.

The mid-engined plug-in electric/hybrid will be capable of 205mph, but emit just 70g/km CO2 - that's less than a supermini.

And when the electric motor works together with the petrol engine, it's capable of 94mpg.

No prices yet, but expect it to be well in excess of £300,000 when it goes on sale in limited numbers in 2012.

Its 600 staff are housed on two floors, while the bottom six storeys provide parking for 168 cars and an in-house garage.

The top four levels, with sea views, are family quarters.

The pad cost £44million to build but is now worth 15 times that. Ambani, who made his £18billion fortune in oil, retail and biotechnology, even found space to move in a VIP guest - mum Kokilaben.

DON'T act the giddy goat, son - just cling on for dear life with all four hooves.

These silly billies can't afford a slip as they graze on a virtually vertical dam wall.

The daredevil herd were snapped at the 160ft Cingino barrier in Northern Italy, near the Swiss border.

It's thought the Ibex goats head there to lick the stones for their salt and minerals.

Of course, one false hoof would mean certain death for the animals, whose climbing antics rival those of film superhero Spider-Man.

Butt the goats don't give a dam about health and safety. They've never even herd of the nanny state.

Proton bullish about new car to be launched Nov 10

SUBANG JAYA: Proton Holdings Bhd is targeting to sell 1,600 units of its new mid-sized four-door sedan, the Inspira, every month. The car, which is essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer GT, will be launched on Nov 10.

Group managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said the vehicle, which is already available for booking, would be positioned as a high C-segment/low D-segment vehicle and will be tentatively priced from RM79,888 to RM95,000.

“The best way to launch a car in this segment is through smart collaborations,” said Syed Zainal at the soft launch of the Inspira yesterday, adding that the development of the vehicle was in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motor Corp (MMC) of Japan.

Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir at the soft launch of the Proton Inspira yesterday. As part of the company’s efforts to promote the car, the vehicle (or just the front end of it) will be driven around the country in a truck until its launch on Nov 10.

The Mitsubishi Lancer GT starts from RM120,980. Vehicles within the C-segment include makes such as the Honda Civic or Toyota Altis while the D-segment comprises models such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Syed Zainal said that while the Inspira was being offered in place of the discontinued Proton Waja, he clarified that the Inspira was not a direct replacement of the Waja.

“This is not a Waja replacement. The Waja has been discontinued. If you look at the overall customer retention of any automotive company, when a car is discontinued, a vehicle that takes its place has to have a much better packaging.

The Proton Inspira. Only the front of the car was unveiled to the media and public on Thursday. Actual launch is on Nov.10

“Customers are demanding. They want to upgrade to a bigger and better car. So we need to offer a better product. So this is what Proton has to do or we will lose out. We’re offering a vehicle in a new segment that is not represented by Proton.”

Syed Zainal said it would cost Proton as much as RM700mil to develop a new car from the ground up but only half the amount via collaborations.

To a question if the Inspira would help Proton regain its number one position (from Perodua) in the passenger car market, Syed Zainal said: “This journey is not about regaining pole position. It’s about making this company grow steadily. Along the way if we become number one, then it’s good.

“But the bigger picture should not be to become number one domestically. The bigger picture is that we want to grow globally and that’s what we want to do.”

Unfortunately, a final version of the Inspira wasn’t available for display and only the front end of the car was revealed to the media.

The name Inspira was chosen via a contest involving Proton employees.

$2 Million Bugatti & Three Other Supercars Smashed in Wild Autobahn Weekend

A recent weekend in Germany saw the wanton destruction of a small fortune in supercars in a series of unbelievable smashups on the Autobahns. In the space of a mere 48 hours a Bugatti, two Lamborghinis and an Audi R8 were all totaled while traveling at eye-popping speeds. The first two casualties were a rare $2 million Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (above) and a Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster, involved in separate incidents mere hours apart. The Lamborghini was driven by a 32-year-old who lost control of the car in Vaterstetten in lower Franconia but miraculously walked away unharmed. The driver of the Grand Sport lost control while passing another car at 125 mph, causing some $560,000 worth of damage. Then a black Lamborghini LP670-4SV driven by a couple of mechanics who'd just performed an oil change on the vehicle spun out and got pretty badly banged up. And finally a limited edition $200,000 Audi R8 GT, one of only 333 built, burned to cinders after crashing near Denkendorf on the A9.

SSC Ultimate Aero II

Bugatti may sit alone at the top of the industry in a number of ways, but it isn't alone in the top-speed chase. Like NASA had the USSR's space program , Bugatti has Shelby SuperCars to keep it on its toes. After Bugatti set the top-speed record with the original Veyron, SSC came along with its Ultimate Aero to take away its crown. Bugatti has since responded with the Veyron Super Sport, and now SSC is working on an answer of its own. That's what you see here.

Designed by Jason Castriota of Bertone and Pininfarina fame, the next-generation SSC Ultimate Aero II has the ambitious milestone of 275 miles per hour in its sights. Its power-to-weight ratio, thanks in part to carbon fiber and aluminum construction, is nearly double that of the Veyron. And with a 6.8-liter twin-turbo V8 packing 1350 horsepower, its output is higher while using half the cylinders and turbochargers of its European rival. This ought to be good. But don't like it too much, as the price tag is expected to come in around $970,000.
