BOSTON: Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani would become the world’s richest man in 2014, predicts Forbes magazine in a special 2020 report.
“One of the predictions is that Reliance Industries’ chief Ambani, who currently has a net worth of US$29bil, pips the world’s richest man, Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, to top Forbes’ rich list in 2014,” Press Trust of India quoted the magazine as saying.
Ambani’s net worth would swell to US$62bil while Slim is “hit hard by Mexican political, financial chaos,” according to Forbes. Ambani, 53, currently ranks fourth on Forbes’ list of the world’s billionaires.
Forbes said its special What Happens Next – Our Look Ahead report was “a vision of the coming decade sketched from real data, projections and facts whenever possible – though we’ve injected a dose of rigorous science fiction to fill the gaps.”
Among its other predictions are convicted Ponzi-scheme perpetrator Bernard Madoff would be found dead in his prison cell in 2011; and social networking site Facebook would debut on Nasdaq in 2012 and its founder Mark Zuckerberg would become the first 20-something with a worth of US$10bil-plus.
“Futurism favours the bold. Look more than 30 years ahead … and critics will forgive your inaccuracies. We’ve attempted a thought experiment with far tougher standards: predicting the future that’s just around the corner,” Forbes said. — Bernama
